The Namibia Institute for Democracy (NID) with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) launched the 3rd edition of the Guide to Civil Society in Namibia. The much anticipated launch was held Wednesday morning 13th February 2019 at the House of Democracy. It had members of Civil Society and the donor community excited for the newly revised version.
The Guide presents civil society organisations (CSOs) with their contact details and the sectors of activity in Namibia. The publication consists of 10 chapters which are Agriculture, Arts and Culture, Children, Disabilities, Education, Environment, Gender, Health and Human Rights. 130 CSOs responded to the questionnaire. The inquiry form was sent out through various media platforms. These include email, print media, TV (Good morning Namibia) and radio for CSOs to contribute to the Guide to Civil Society.
During the launch Graham Hopwood, Executive Director of the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), presented his findings from a recent CSO-survey. Hopwood remarked that “the Guide to Civil Society provides a useful overview of CSOs that are active in Namibia. The guide can be used by researchers and donors to get a sense of what various organisations are contributing to the development of Namibia. Finally Civil Society has a database that interested parties can work with.”
